I’m Giacomo Arimoni, a Milan‑based designer who’s spent more time wrestling with overstuffed bags than admiring Duomo views.

I’ve faced the stress of weight limits, the hassle of checked‑bag fees, and the constant juggle of everything I need on the road. Those challenges sparked an idea: what if packing smarter could be effortless?

The answer became the RIZZ Backpack—Italy’s first travel pack with built‑in vacuum‑compression technology, engineered so you can carry two weeks of clothing in one carry‑on and travel without limits.

The moment

Frustrated by overpacked suitcases and ever‑rising baggage fees, I realized travelers deserved a smarter solution.

Through rapid ideation, hands‑on prototyping, and material testing in my Milan studio, I engineered the RIZZ Backpack with an integrated vacuum‑compression system.

The outcome is a sleek, eco‑conscious travel essential blending Italian design with effortless packing efficiency.

The challenge that sparked our idea

In 2018, I embarked on a mission to bring a bold travel concept to life. Struck by the absence of backpacks leveraging vacuum‑seal technology, I set out to engineer a durable, sustainable compression system. Countless sketches, prototypes, and material trials later, I seamlessly integrated this vacuum‑bag innovation into the RIZZ Backpack’s main compartment—resulting in the sleek, high‑performance design you see today.

The Design Process

At RIZZ, we champion clean, minimalist design that marries effortless functionality with uncompromising craftsmanship. In February 2022, we took a major step forward—filing our first patent for the core compression technology that powers every pack. From initial sketches to final prototypes, we’ve given equal weight to advanced vacuum‑seal innovation, premium materials, and sleek Italian aesthetics, ensuring each RIZZ Backpack delivers both cutting‑edge performance and timeless style.

Challenges

Bringing the RIZZ Backpack from concept to reality presented its share of obstaclesand opportunities. Early prototyping revealed durability concerns around the vacuum‑seal valves, prompting extensive material testing and three rounds of mold refinements with our Milan manufacturing partner. Mid‑2021 supply‑chain delays forced us to identify new European textile suppliers who shared our commitment to sustainability and quality.

To finance these critical development stages tooling, patent filings, and small‑batch production we secured a €250 000 seed round in late 2022, led by travel‑tech angel investors. Soon after, our Kickstarter campaign exceeded its €100 000 goal by 50%, attracting over 1 000 backers and validating strong market demand. These funding milestones, combined with rigorous user testing and design iteration, paved the way for our global launch in 2023 and set RIZZ on a path of continued growth.
